97 astro stumbles when i hit gas from idle

97 astro stumbles when i hit gas from idle Sign In

i have a 97 chevy astro that when i hit the gas from a standstill, it hesitates severely then lurches forward and seems to smoothout..on highway it runs good..i want some advice since i just got it today..it almost dies out but doesnt..

Is it banging into gear when it catches?

with air con on it seems to be more severe..like i said, once it gets moving,it smooths out, doesnt seem to be missing

A bad Mass Air Flow sensor would act like that. You can try unplugging it to see if it runs any better but that will set a code and put the check engine light on so it will have to be cleared after.
