1996 3.1 Lumina 195k drives great, but when let sit overnight it runs for a couple of seconds and dies- does this 3 or 4 times and then just cranks. Can be restarted by 6 or 7 short blast of carb cleaner to keep it running until it picks up on it's own. Then it drives great and can be shut off and restarts on it's own.

Could be a few things going on here. It would be very helpful if you could put a fuel pressure gauge on this and see what the pressure is doing thru all this.... One thing you could try would be to cycle the key from off to on (without cranking the engine) about 6 or 7 times, leaving it in the on position for about 3 to 4 seconds each time....If this gets the engine to start on it's own, this would be an indication that the fuel rail is bleeding off pressure while sitting. The longer it sits, the emptier the rail get...

Thanks for the help. I just tried turning key on 7 times and then tried to start--doesn't fire. It always starts when coax w/fluid. Then drives great. I have a daytime employed mechanic that also works at home, who will look at it next week, but this seems to be a problem alot of cars have and can't find an answer to.

Well it always helps getting as much info as possible. Verify fuel, spark, injector pulse. There is so many things that can cause this from a dirty throttle body to a coolant temp sensor giving a bad reading.....I remember something about the old fords having a bad control module doing something like that.... If you can, get the codes pulled, might be some help there.... But you don't want to start throwing parts at it.....just too many possibilities
