96 Monte Carlo 3.1 Sign In

Hey all. SInce my usual area of repair is Ford, got a question for you. Daughter came down and she has a 1996 Monte Carlo 3.1 and it idles extremely high the first start of the day. It can sit all day after that, and it will idle normally each start after the first one. You cam wait 8 hours after the first start and it is OK. If it sits overnight, it will r3ev from 2500 to approximately 3500 rpm's and stay there until you shut the car off. Then it will idle normally. We have swapped IAC with another(used). Just wondering if there is anything I can do in the next couple of days. The old IAC would not drop below 2500. Thanks and sorry to bother y'all on Christmas.

on the first start with the high rev, does it drop if you feather the gas pedal or put into gear?

way2; The IAC would be my first instinct, also. Can you scan it? I'm wondering if MAP/BARO or TPS could have anything to do with it? What about CTS reading? Is it close to actual ambient temp when cold?

Scanned with nemesis and could not see anything out of ordianary. The ECT and actual air temp are within 2 degrees of each other on initial cold start. The rpm's will not drop until you let it run for a little while and shut it off. Then it idlesw around 1000. It is still a little high but not bad. The car runs good except for initial start. Was wondering about possible sticking linkage somewhere. Might purchase a new valve and see if it helps. After all, it is my daughter.Cool

Way2; Should be able to disconnect throttle linkage from TB. Might take a look into the TB to make sure the throttle plates are closing? Unusual, but have seen them bent. Or, someone has cranked up the idle stop.

Will look at it in the morning before she leaves. Hope it is something simple and stupid that I am overlooking. Thanks. See ya.
