I have a 95 lumina 3.1 in the past couple of years it has over heated several times the first time was the intake gasket had no more problems till a month or so ago it had a heater hose leaking repaired this and it seemed to be fine then last week it begin over heating again heater was cold it was blowing coolant back in the resevoir radiator hoses were real tight pulled the heads gasket was blown had the heads resurfaced got it back together still got hot heater still cold not wanting to ruin what i had just done and not wanting to buy parts i didn't need i replaced thermostat by past heater ever thing worked fine temp came up about 2/3s on gauge heater worked fine so I flushed heater core a lot of junk came out, looked like some one had used stop leak at some time. Now as I said ever thing seems to work fine but the hose get real tight so i loosen the cap just a little pressure an the hoses go down , ever thing still works fine temp doesn't come up past half way not enough for fans to come on. of coarse it is in the 30's and 40's is normal any thoughts and advice will be appreciated.

The cooling system will build pressure, this is normal and required for todays temp requirements. For every pound of pressure on the cooling system the boiling point raises 1 degree. This is how the systems can run in the 220 ° range and not boil over. If the pressure it too high the cap is designed to vent the excess pressure. The 2 main things you can monitor is engine temp & coolant level. As long as both of those are in range you should be good.
It sounds like you've already experienced a lot of cooling system problems and know what signs to look for but in never hurts to be careful as you are doing. Like you said, you don't want to be redoing what you've already done.

than you for your reply,i was not sure how much pressure sould be on the hoses again they get real tight,i will replace the radiator cap , hopfuly this problem is solved.You will be hearing from me from time to time,since i choose to drive older vehicles instead of having a payment

Replace the thermostat. It is stuck closed. This will cause the upper hose to get hard. Also, if the upper hose is hot and the lower hose is cold, that is a sign of a stuck t-stat. You will also have to purge the system when you refill it . There should be a brass bleed-off in the top of the t-stat housing and a second one in the metal coolant lines.

That engine is known for trapping air in the system also. There should be a bleeder screw on the water pipe along side the head. If you have access to a vacuum fill tool, that works the best.
