On a cold morning (10 deg. F) truck would not start, I tried cranking several times and still would not start. I noticed I could not hear fuel pump working. Two days later (about the same temp. outside) I tried again and could hear fuel pump and truck started fine. It drove fine ,but then a half hour later after shut off, again no pump noise/no start. The next day worked fine again. I ran out of gas a week earlier and re-started several times after initially running out of fuel.

Your going to have to troubleshoot the fuel pump electrical circuit during the period when it isn't starting to determine why.

Any - but GM stuff can have connection issues where wiring goes to fuel pump and gauge. Just a maybe from similar cold country. 17F as I write and expected near 10F overnite. No snow or salted roads yet to mess up electrical crap yet here but can and will,
