94 chevy, again. Sign In

94 chevrolet 1500 4.3L vort. My truck jumped time not too long ago, i had the timing chain and gears changed, now she runs. but theres a few weird glitches, my shift pattern (automatic) is P,R,N,[D]D2,1 i can pull the shifter into P R N and [D] but it wont go into the lower gears. its like all spungy and wont stay. another thing is, i changed the fuel pump, put one that came out of a 350 in it, I thought it was squirting too much fuel, so i put a fuel regulator on it. Now when it cranks up, it idles down and up a few times then starts idling fine, and when you drive it if you get on it or give it alot of gas, it sputters a little and pops almost like a stall. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

The shifter should be unrelated to the timing chain job which isn't all that hard to line up but who knows - could be off.

I'm not certain but I don't think this is an interference engine in which case if it was valve damage could have happened!

A compression test would show and be help full. Also look for any vacuum hoses that are broken or might be off.

Just guesses for now,

T

I also did not think the shifter was related, since it worked after the timing was fixed for a while and all the sudden i noticed it didnt. Its also a newer (refurbished) tranny in it, could it be going out? still shifts fine. Just wont go into first or drive.

Oh, believe me. It's not that I'm stumped about anything. It's the totally unbelievable stuff you posted here.

You used a fuel pump from a 350 and then you put a regulator in it? That is the most off the wall thing I have ever heard of someone doing. I wouldn't even attempt to work with that setup.

#1 ******* Put the correct parts on your truck & remove rigged up regulator
#2******* Check shift linkage for proper adjustment
#3******* Get a manual for your truck and read it.
