1994 Ford Escort GT
1.8 ltr DOHC
185 000 KM

My car starts and goes, but once i get up to 2nd or 3rd gear it and try to accelerate it starts to sputter and loses power and just revs high, if i let the gas pedal go it returns to normal idle and is ok but once I try and accelerate it wants to die and just revs high again. The clutch is near new, so don't think it has anything to do with clutch or tranny. I'm told it might be the head gasket, how can i test or know? Also told it might be the headers as it does have a few small pinholes that you can see exhaust moisture around the tiny pinholes, do I need to replace headers? I've changed the spark plugs and coil, tested the alternator. What next?

Your question isn't making a whole lot of sense the way it is worded.

If what you say is true and the engine is revving without the car going any faster and you have a standard transmission, it can be nothing but a clutch slipping problem.
