hello form, my father has a 1993 ford escort lx 1.9L 4cyl 5 Speed wagon. he says it is getting a bad miss from 50 mph - 60mph. I told him I would research around and see if I can help him find the problem. we both think it's a sensor, either throttle position or mass air, is anyone else had this issue, or know if we are correct? thanks in advance.

Could be an ignition misfire which is the most common. Has he inspected the plugs, wires, and for good spark coming out of the coil? Weak coils and/or worn ignition components can cause misfiring under load. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

yes he has checked all the ignition and wires, all that was replaced less then 2 months ago. he doesn't hot rod it, so I don't know why it misses from 50-60mph.

I've never seen a TPS cause an engine misfire. A MAF could cause the engine to run poorly, hesitate, or stall, but haven't seen one that would only cause missing at a certain vehicle speed. Does it only misfire at that speed range? Is the vehicle being accelerated or just cruising? Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

it only does it from 50-60, I assume when he's accelerating.
