I am about crazy lol. I have an intermittent problem with my service engine soon light. The computer keeps giving me the code for bad voltage to throttle position sensor / computer core - i have replaced both of these items and am still getting the code. The light doesnt bug me as much as the wear and tear it puts on my transmission (when this code comes up my tranny goes into a failsafe mode and i can only get second gear). If i remove power by disconnecting the positive battery cable, the unit resets itself and runs, until the next time that the light comes on (which can be days later). The only other problem that i seem to be having is that when that service engine soon light is off, the engine seems to idle fast and when it tries to idle down it will die (when engine hot). Dont know if its related to the tps issue.

Any advice would be appreciated,

Thanks in advance.

Jim

Sorry for the late/slow reply but you are going to have to start doing pin checks with a meter. As in what is the reference voltage at the TPS, return signal voltage at the PCM and sensor ground. We/you’ll need to know these to even begin to diagnose this problem. Being that the problem is intermittent it’s likely a connection issue and I don’t just mean at the sensor or PCM but in the wiring harness somewhere. There’s a good chance that it’s not even a TPS circuit problem but another sensor or a slice connection and reference voltage is not getting to the TPS?
Intermittent problems are the hardest to find and I can’t think of any repeat failures that you haven’t already done.
Dan.

Just a short note and it’s not directed solely to you only GUEST but if you or anyone else would like a little more interest in your post. Register to the site and tell us a little more about the vehicle and yourself if you like.
Sorry I don’t mean to preach but even a fictitious name is better then none at all. It shows me that you have taken the time and really want help. Also most that register will check back to look for replies and in turn tell us whether we’ve helped or not. That’s my payday; the thanks for the help or another question.
OK not so short of a note; sorry.
Dan.

Thanks Dan,

Have registered on boards, I do appreciate your help and response. I have not yet purchased a meter. However, i did pay someone $100.00 after i had initially replaced the TPS and the Computer Core. They said that the TPS was registering low voltage and that they hooked power directly to it, tested the TPS said that it works. They said that they then tested the wires and all wires had continuity (sorry if my spelling is off), they said my computer was bad as they had tested the other parts. I put a new computer in and didnt have the problem for days. I do think it is a short of some kind as sometimes i can unhook the positive cable to battery, unplug the computer and replug it back in, and have no problem for several days. I bought me a book that shows how to on various repairs, it contains a wiring schematic. I havent dove into this kind of stuff before so am trying to approach this carefully.

Thanks,

Jim

Used multi meter, reads 5 volts on the reference line (gray), and on the return line (dark blue) i got .2 , this reading was taken with the ses light on.
Have figured out that if i move the wires that connect to computer core sometimes the light will go out, sometimes not. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks in advance.
