93 Camaro has rubber plug boot stuck. Sign In

Hi, I'm having the worst time. I'm changing my wires and plugs and on the left side the one in the middle the rubber boot is stuck on the plug. It's hard as heck to Reach, does anyone have any advice on how to get the boot unstuck off the plug, thank you for your time.

I feel for you. Doing plugs and wires on a F body is a nightmare. It is almost like they use glue on the spark plug boots. If you can twist the boot back and forth, its the terminal that is stuck on the end of the plug. Since your replacing the plugs and wires anyway maybe you can cut the boot off and grab the terminal with a set of pliers. I've even resorted to using a pry bar or a pair of hose pliers to rip them off.

Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

I believe the egr valve is above it. How hard is
that to remove to get to the plugs better?

Some plugs really challenge the imagination. EGR - careful not to break anything - timing wrenches can work for many better than some other tools if that would help to get at the plug - danger there if plug breaks off leaving just threads in the hole! Doesn't matter which engine you didn't say - taper seat plugs GM and others use stick hard especially if overtightened and not lubed properly by boot and a smear on threads of some plugs not plated to not stick/rust into head!

This tool available is the picture will show is handy to me for the boots...........

Check for availability or better yet if handy I make my own out of #1 flathead screwdrivers, grind head square and heat to glowing with plain propane torch with tip up held in a vise can make these at angles so far always work. Time to make them is your deal. BTW - Craftsman Tools have the square shank works lots better if making your own vs hunting down just one.

Short, hex headed plug socket with a wrench to get plug out when this nightmare is over with the boot.

Can take quite an assortment of plug wire, plug removal tools. OK - not sure if sold easily but also bought the whole selection of new boots and crimp on ends by Dorman back when make anything from good wire if so or OE new best.

Other for some: Go thru wheel well! As called for, tilt engine.

Some still really suk!

(edit in) Again - it's really easier to make this tool! Reason for pointing metal of a screwdriver UP is that the glowing heat rises and will not melt the plastic handle while bending this to shape. Made several as pre-made weren't as good is why........

It may sound crude but I have found that a long prybar with a sharp tip with often get those stuck wires off.

Can't argue with what works. I guess I use these more to try to save a boot but would do both and bent custom for specific problem.

IDK - some specific ones are just junk for what you want it to do?
