92 Eagle Talon [Other names: Laser, Eclipse] two cylinders not getting power Sign In

Dual-overhead cam, manual transmission if it matters.
1991 on the registration, although the model looks like it's more of a 92 to me..
Not sure on the mileage, it's in a friend's garage [failing to be fixed] atm so I can't look at it. Guessing around 200k.

Two of my cylinders aren't getting power. Plugs fine, plug wires fine, cylinders themselves are okay. The two of them started losing power randomly as I drove it, but if I gave the car less gas there was a little sweet spot where they'd pick their power up again. I did have one bad ignition coil, which was replaced. When that didn't fix the problem, we tried replacing the module that controls that. Didn't work, replaced the computer that controls all of that. Didn't work, re-checked all the wires etc inbetween.

Now my mechanic-friend is at a loss and getting frustrated with it, not to mention busy with other things, and I really need my car back on the road.

Does anyone have and ideas of what could be wrong?

You put all that description in there and never included the engine size or which cylinders have the problem.

Which coil was replaced?

How did you determine that the plugs and wires were "fine" which is not a diagnostic, technical term.

Have you actually tested spark at the plug end of the wire?

Have you done a compression test and what were the results?

Re: 92 Eagle Talon [Other names: Laser, Eclipse] two cylinders not getting power Sign In

Forgot the engine size. It's a 2.0. 4-cylinder, no turbo, front wheel drive.

I'm not the one who determined that they were fine, my father and the mechanic both did. So I don't know how it was determined, other then that obviously the spark plugs were tested. They probably used a reader to see if there was a solid current going through the plug wires, I know that we own one. It detects live wires etc. [It's what I'd have done, anyways.] Or I'm p sure there's something they could have hooked it up to and read the voltage etc...
I don't know how 'fine' is not an acceptable term, either: They work. They aren't damaged or badly worn. Etc.

I asked my father further about the problem and asked about compression test reults, and he said that the specific problem is that the cylinders won't spark. [Making a compression test unrelated, he says.]

Both coils were replaced, I'm told.

Not sure which cylinders, but it's not the cylinder itself so I'm not sure that it continues to matter.

Also, you don't need to be rude. =/
It's not like I would'nt have fixed the gaps in information if you were polite.

Don't lecture me......... You're the one that came here with nothing, asking for help. In one statement you tell me you have spark and then you turn around and say the compression is fine and you have no spark. Apparently you don't know what you do or don't have and your father thinks he already knows what's going on. If he doesn't want to test what I ask him to, then I'm sure he will figure it out himself eventually.

I NEVER said it had spark. I said it wasn't getting power. Not that it wasn't MAKING power..

Also, I did watch my father and the mechanic do the compression tests early on. They have done them, but he say's it's not relevant at this point, since they already isolated the problem. [The lack of spark, with all the components I mentioned working.] He doesn't know what's going on beyond that, neither of them can figure out the source of the problem. =/

You sure have an odd way of asking for help. Theres a reason we ask those dunb anoying questions. We do not have the car to feel see or hear what is happening .You must be as acurate and as descriptive as possible. In your case there are many things that can cause "no power" in a cyl with a good spark .Low compression , burnt or sticking valves, a vacumm leak ,even a small vac hose cracked can do it. THis is why we need information not just I think we did it or it does not matter . HOW ARE WE TO HELP WITH WHAT YOU GAVE US .................'

Re: 92 Eagle Talon [Other names: Laser, Eclipse] two cylinders not getting power Sign In

I know that, that's fine. No problems giving more complete info, so long as I know what to give. :)
But there's is definitely no need to be so abrasive while asking for it.

It's not an odd way of asking help to expect some common decency? Not that I don't apprectiate any help I can get, but in a place where people go for help.. well.. I truthfully expected friendliness, or at least not being judged instantly. Obviously my knowledge of automobiles is quite limited, which is why I'm here.

I'm a board mod myself, I can't even imagine trying to help someone on my own territory and speaking that way to them, unless they made 5 topics about the same thing or were ignoring my questions. V:

Thanks though, I really do appreciate any help I can get. Is any other information needed?

Re: 92 Eagle Talon [Other names: Laser, Eclipse] two cylinders not getting power Sign In

OK ,here's what we got .Good compression on all cyls , good spark on all cyls.have you checked injector pulse with a noid lite?If all these factors are ok , then start eng..at idle kill one cyl at a time . slide a test lite probe down between spark plug boot and wire to do this . look for which cyls do not change rpm . these are your bad cyls. look for vac leaks ,worn cam lobes, crossed wires .try swapping plugs with a good cyl. try swapping inj with a good cyl.

Nobody has been abrasive to you yet. I can show you what abrasive really is if you keep it up.
