91 Camry starting question Sign In

Hey, I have 91 camry that when you go to start it, it turns over then makes a chugging/choking sound and wont start. battery is good bc the radio/lights/etc come on, and i can put everything into gear. Its about 35 degrees here so im hoping that it may just be needing some antifreeze which is on the way, but i was wondering if anyone might have any tips on this. thanks

Just about nothing you said had any truth to it.

The lights being on does not mean your battery is good. You need to start out by charging and testing the battery.

We replaced that battery about two weeks ago. The car functions work that would need battery power from what my neighbor said. I just wanted to be sure it was nothing i could fix before i had it towed to a shop.

Lights, radio etc., don't use squat for power compared to the starter motor. You need to charge and test that battery no matter how new, clean all cable connections and test charging system and go from there.

Antifreeze is for colder weather than that and provides corrosion protection - not much to do with starting unless the engine was frozen solid without any,

T
