Year: 1989 Make: Chevy Model: Corsica Engine Size: 2.0 Mileage: 60,000 miles~ *Automatic This car is in relatively good condition, as far as everything working and running fine. A few days ago I drove it to work, and everything was fine on the drive there. When I went to drive it home, I noticed the RPM was much higher than normal. I went from probably around 2.5k RPM on the highway to 4.5k. The problem is not just at highway speeds though. Accelerating from a stop there is a noticeable loss in power, and I get up to 3k rpm just to get up to 25 mph. First thing I did was the easiest (cheapest) I could think of. Completely changed the transmission fluid. It may have helped a little, but not much. Old fluid looked fine. I'm not a big 'car person', just looking for some suggestions before I take it to a shop where the guys tell me I need to buy a new transmission or something :( Thanks!

If I understand this right you once went speed X on the highway at 2,500 RPM and now to do the same take 4,500 RPM? That and noticeable loss of power suggests trans is slipping and probably wont much longer but quit altogether. Surprised fluid doesn't look burned or dark? T
