I've never had any real issue with the clutch, but I suspect one is coming. When I push the clutch down to shift, sometimes it doesn't come all the way back up. Instead, it will rise from the floor only by a few inches and stop there. It's far enough from the floor that the engine is still engaged, so it's usually not a problem.

However, sometimes it is a problem. Suppose I wanted to shift from 3rd to 4th. With the clutch oddly hovering only a few inches from the floor, I depress the pedal and try to shift. However, I cannot shift out of 3rd gear. In order to shift out of 3rd gear, I have to first slip my foot behind the pedal and lift the clutch myself. As I start to lift, it will jump all the way out like a good clutch should. Then, I depress the pedal once more and now I'll be able to shift from 3rd to 4th gear.

Can anyone specifically diagnose my problem from this description?

That indicates a problem with the hydraulic portion of the clutch. You have a leak in either the clutch master or the slave cylinder and you will have to find out which, replace it and bleed out the system.

The problem is resolved.

After bleeding the clutch system twice, the problem still remained.

I kept reading and asking questions and very often people were suggesting that I replace either the clutch master cylinder or the clutch slave cylinder. So, with the help of "Eric the Car Guy" link deleted..not allowed, I swapped out both the clutch master and slave cylinders. This solved the problem completely.

After inspecting the old cylinders, it definitely looks as if the clutch master cylinder was leaking. I'm no mechanic, but that's my best assessment.

Thanks for the advice!
