The only thing that is original from the camaro is the proportioning valve. I have tryed bleeding with the car running and without, any ideas?Thanks Tom Greenleaf Ultimate Carjunky / Moderator Jul 3, 2006, 12:08 PM Post #2 of 4 (1998 views) Re: 40 chevy brake problem Sign In Ok, let's rock here! 78 Camaro brakes: Master cyliner needs to be bench bled if it wasn't and you might be able to do that while it's in the car. If you didn't do that you could pump that pedal till hell freezes over and get nowhere. I believe in 1978 Camaro you could get power brakes or not and the MC might be different and if the push rod isn't at the right spot that could be a problem. With just a finger and engine off there should be some free play and then some resistance pushing on the brake. With a helper and cap off of the MC push on brake VERY SLOWLY and see if there's any action in the reservoir. Again go slow as it can make a geyser and you DON'T want brake fluid all over the place. Another trick is to use vacuum (hand held) pump with clear line so you don't suck brake fluid into your pump when you see it coming. Take it off right away if that works. There is also a tool that clamps to top of MC and applies pressure that gets things going. Hit back if you are still having trouble -- I see what else I can think of, T hmcbandit Anonymous Poster hmcbandit@comcast.net Jul 5, 2006, 11:33 AM Post #3 of 4 (1991 views) Re: 40 chevy brake problem Sign In I hooked a couple of clear plastic lines to the master cylinder outlets and had a good flow of fluide but as soon as I hooked the hard lines back up I still had no workable pressure. Not to sure what's going on. If you have a helper the pedal MUST be held down till a bleeder is tightened up again or it will just just suck air back in. With all the new brake parts it's all air right now and takes a while to get it all out. If unsure about bench bleeding hit back and I'll give you all the procedures which usually come with a new MC. The clear hoses MUST be held in brake fluid or again you are just sucking air back in.
