2019 Nissan Altima Ticking Sign In

So I'm going to try and keep this short... About 7 months ago, my wife got a promotion at work, taking her daily commute from 20 minutes to an hour plus. One way. So we decided it was time to buy a more reliable car for all that driving. So, we went out and bought a 2019 Nissan Altima SR 2.5 with 36K on the odometer. And everything has been great. Until now. 25K miles later. I've been changing the oil religiously, every time right at 5K miles. Except, time before last, we had some stuff going on and I had to let it ride for an extra thousand miles or so. And that's when it started ticking. I changed the oil, and the ticking got a little quieter, but it was still there. Now it's back as loud as before. I let my buddy talk me into putting some heavier oil in it, so last night I drained the 0W and put in 5W, but it didn't change anything. I'd almost say it made it worse. He swears up and down its just the valves and they need adjusting, but I'm scared to death its the timing chain. Especially after doing some research. I have an appointment at a Nissan dealership Monday, but I'm going to have to pay out of pocket for anything they do. So I was hoping you guys would take a listen and tell me what you think. I know a little bit about cars, but I'm far from a mechanic. And I don't want to pull into a dealership clueless. Any help here would be GREATLY appreciated.

I'm linking the video from YouTube.

How could this car not be under 100% warranty? Only if you or prior owner really messed up something or did something yourself or prior owner to cause it. It would be covered IMO unless you got some info it wasn't.

Bad move changing OIL viscosity type suggested for it. THAT perhaps change back or shut up at the dealer could be an excuse to blame YOU.

There are no valves to adjust in much of anything since the stone age. Do follow all periodic maintenance with anything listed out clearly in owner's manuals in paper or other for this new?

Read what is covered in those by time and miles IF YOU FOLLOWED THE SCHEDULE FOR THE CAR. Who was prior owner and was anything disclosed that happened or an IDK on that?

Really - it's too new to mess with by other than dealer for repairs IMO if you do you may own the problem!

Re: 2019 Nissan Altima Ticking Sign In

We bought it used from Drivetime. When we bought it, it had 36K miles on it. That was 7 months ago. Since then, she's already put 24K miles on it, so it's right at 60K, already. When she left this morning it was at 59400. But every bit of those are highway miles. We bought the extended warranty through SilverRock, which covers it for 50K miles, so technically it's still under warranty and will be until 86K. Problem being, SilverRock is notorious for finding any reason to deny the claim, and for the past 4 oil changes, I've done it myself. And they're going to want all the oil change receipts, which I won't be able to provide since I did it myself. So instead we just cashed out a chunk of our 401K to cover whatever's wrong with it. The prior owner was a rental car company. And I have been keeping up with the regular maintenance. And I completely agree with you that I should NOT have changed the oil out. I'm probably going to go ahead and put 0W back in it later today.

That doesn't really sound like lifters to me. It sounds more like a fuel injector. This likely has high pressure mechanical injectors.

Let a pro look at it and get an accurate diagnosis.

OK, having been a rental MAY alter warranty with a deductible for engine, trans + big stuff. Not wear items expected. Oil was probably within time/miles depends on what the schedule was.

So for now IDK what happens if a car has a rental title should say so and maybe that concern covers warranty not Nissan totally? Grey area now.
Nobody want the warranty work will attempt to say "not covered" now some miles if Nissan they don't pay the same as YOU would for non warranty work. That work isn't paid for twice so if a problem before that place/dealer owns it makes a total run around.
Read you papers for any disclaimers, exceptions or known issues if listed I can't know place by place what they might get away with but the "rental" history is a snag I'd avoid,
