2012 Jeep Liberty
Issue: Water leaking from windshield and general area
Notes: purchased brand new two weeks ago, ~215 miles on it. There is a skyslider on the vehicle, but that seems in tact and rain actual seems to sit on top of it. The leak appears to come from the windshield area.
Requested Help: general advice on what to confirm with dealership, steps to take considering a lot could be happening behind the scenes, etc.
Hello everyone... I recently purchased a new 2012 Jeep Liberty and have had it for approximately 2 weeks. Today is the first rain we've had since the purchase and water is coming into the car from what appears to be the windshield area. I am taking it to the dealership tomorrow morning and they said since it's under warranty that this is no big deal. They'll find the leak and fix it up. Even if the windshield simply needs to be further sealed or resealed, I still have concerns since water is involved....
My concerns are that this vehicle has sat in the lot for a few months, under multiple heavy rains, and that there may be a much larger issue present and/or building (mold, water damage, rust, etc.) happening behind the scenes. I've taken pictures of the leaking areas and water inside my car.
Questions:
1) Is there any precedence to request a new vehicle?
2) Are there any steps I should take to somehow keep the dealership honest with the repairs and potential long term damage?
3) Can/should I request documentation noting there was a leak and also how long this vehicle sat exposed to the weather?
4) Is there any notations that can be made for future warranty items and/or for when I go out of warranty? :)
I think you get my drift... Any advice on how to best protect my interest now and long-term would be GREATLY appreciated.

Your windshield just needs to get resealed. Take it to the dealer and let them make it right for you. As to how to "keep the dealership honest," I could very well ban you from this site and with the day I'm having very well might do it. Who do you think is giving you the repair advice at this site? THE SAME MECHANICS YOU ARE SAYING ARE TRYING TO SCREW YOU OVER!!!!!! So learn some humility. Any warranty repair performed goes into a database that every dealership can clearly see. Its all documented for you. Unless this thing has standing water like a pool you didn't hurt a damn thing. If it does, they total it out and give you a new one BECAUSE ITS GOOD BUSINESS. If it had mold you would've smelled it by now or seen stains in the carpet.
I've seen your type before many times. You are more paranoid than a crackhead and think every single mechanic is trying to screw you out of every last little dime they can squeeze. You wait with camera in hand and a lawyer on speeddial just itching to stick it to someone for any perceived slight yet you exist in ignorance of how your machine even functions at the most basic level. You have won the Massengill Award, and I hope you stand in awe of the trophy you get for being a douchebag.

Nick,
I appreciate the fact that you took the time to respond to my post, even thought you have such strong objections to the wording I used to describe my situations/thoughts as well as your assumptions as to what type of person I am.
I did not know, until your reply that every warranty repair went into a database as you described. This gives me comfort.
Let me clarify a few items that may help you understand my intentions and character, since your reaction was extremely inaccurate.
1) This is a situation that I know nothing about, so it is new to me and I am concerned. My mind is full of a lot of thoughts, so I sought the advice of people who are knowledgable in this area..
2) Water can be a very destructive force and I have seen it at work in other areas in my life (home, etc.), so it is valid to concern myself with potential long term damage when water is involved.
3) I just purchased a new vehicle that leaked at the first sight of rain, so I hope you can understand that I could be a little frustrated.
4) I work in an industry that has a very strong reliance on support agreements and I take extreme pride in my work, and I would like to believe others do as well... but I do keep my facts in order and I do not like to just go into situations uninformed.
5) I took pictures TO SHOW THE SERVICE TECHNICIANS where I saw water and the impact it had on my car! That was my only intent.
I would ask that you re-read my post and skip over the "keep the dealership honest part". That statement was more a reflection of this unknown situation than it was anything that you decided to leap to.
In my post you should see that I am confused, concerned there could be more damage, and that I am looking for facts to see if there is anything that I should ask for/say/or do to make sure that I have all the information.
Thanks for the reply and for not banning me. I am not looking for a response from you, I would just hope that you can see how not everyone is out to stick it to someone or deserving on the language/reaction you used.

No, there is no precedence to request a new car. That is what warranties are for. Remember, the dealer that sold you this car and the dealer that you are asking to repair it are not the ones that built it so they are not automatically suspect of anything. Lemon laws vary from state to state and some have the option for replacing the car but only after a specific number of attempts to repair the same failure. You can research the laws in your state. If the water damaged a carpet or any modules or anything like that, make them aware and they will resolve it.

Thanks for the reply.
After a night to sleep on it, and some comments/advice from others, the fact that I do not smell mold now or ever is a great sign and should squash my fear of this being a longer term bigger issue (from the car sitting in the lot for months before I purchased it) and I will make sure I understand the warranty I have.

Just make sure the carpet gets lifted the dry under it or you will have mold in the future.
