post locked   2010 hyundai accent GLS hood cant open, cable was disconnected

I was installing a wiring harness and disconnected the cable near the battery inside the engine compartment for extra clearance. The one that goes to the hood latch. Well, I forgot to reconnect it. Now I cant open the hood. It is not a bad cable. Its just not connected to the latch. The picture of the latch is in the link.
Anyway, i tried everything I could think of to fix this. I pried the hood open enough to try and get some tools in there. I could push the tab up that you push to open after pulling the cable under the dash. But, it doesn't do any good . I guess cause it's not connected to the latch? I cant see what Im dealing with so, not sure how it works exactly. I tried getting it from underneath the front of the car and through the grill. Any ideas how to fix this. I made an appt with a mechanic cause I tried for 2 hours. I think body parts have to come off, unless there is some trick or special tool?

Thanks for any help

I deleted your link for 2 reasons. One, it was way too long and ran off the end of the page. Second, links are not allowed here unless it is one of your own pictures or videos.

The picture in the link was the striker and the safety, not the latch.
Here is a picture of a latch. The release lever is on the back side. Getting access to it may be difficult. You just have to find place it can be accessed from, maybe from below or through the grill. It's not going to be easy.

Sorry about that. Idk what's wrong with the page. It seems like it won't word wrap (not just the link, but all the text). This is the only forum it does that on on my PC. I am in several other forums

This is going to really stink. Assorted reasons on assorted vehicles most super suk to open.

I suggest if you can see the flipping cable thru the grille at all stop and price out a replacement grille! I have a strong hunch you'll be wasting real body parts to get that open then the repair of what it took to get at it.

This case alone the real bummer for approaches and ideas is that YOU know it's not attached not just broken, bent (accident) neglect of lube) or other so it's intact to stay shut OMG actually makes it harder IMO but wish you luck.

I'd be looking at another vehicle exactly like yours for the best possible pics what and where exactly could get at the right spot with the least damage and tools required IDK how accurate web stuff or even dealer body diagrams would be for this to help you or whoever takes it on,

This was quite an experience. i asked for help on another forum and someone looked at their car which helped a lot and suggested to try and get at the screws on the striker.
Since I didnt care about scratching up the hood, I had already pried a bunch of tools in there (rods, screwdrivers, etc) to lift the hood up so I can see in there. Well, I used plastic chocks as wedges which gave me "just enough room" to work. The ratcheting wrench I used was too short but was just reaching which gave me just enough leverage to break the screws on the striker with a rubber hammer. I had just enough room to use the ratcheting function to completely remove the striker! I couldn't believe what I was feeling when the ratcheting function worked and the screw was turning! I had to have the perfect angle on the wrench to get enough bite and leverage on the screw. I knew I would be there all day if I didnt find another way. I taped the wrench to the screwdriver to "lengthen" it. It was JUST getting it cause of the angle. The wrench is very slim though. Took about 5 minutes after I figured a way, 1 hour total, not counting the other 2 messing with it. WOW!
Now for the crazy part!.....the cable was connected the whole time inside the engine compartment. It was only disconnected under the dash inside the car at the lever. I thought I had forgot to connect it near the hood latch so I had just left the cable unattached at the lever inside the car under the dash. Doh! STUPID STUPID STUPID! Well, I tested everything. Oiled everything, etc. I left the striker unattached from the hood and pushed it into the latch. It clicked in. After reattaching the cable inside the car, I pulled the lever and the striker popped off the latch and everything seems good. I would post pics but it takes me to some image hosting page. IDK what thats all about. Thanks again! We could all laugh now!
BTW, The page on this forum is still too wide . IDK why. There is a scroll bar at the bottom that I use to see all the text. Like I said , it doesnt do that on any other forum. I will try any suggestions to avoid posting incorrect format in the future. I just dont know what to do

Sounds like you got it with minimal damage if you did fix cosmetics would be costly.

Stuff happens like that hard to say just one way will work then find out you could have pulled with pliers or what was there still. Let it be and glad it's open can move on. I lock up thread now so others don't jump on it you can ask any mod to reopen it if you wish,

Tom
