2010 Toyota Avanza, Interior smells like paint/nail polish remover

We have owned our 2010 Toyota Avanza for about six months now. We don't drive it often, probably 2-3 times a week for short trips. It is in a parking garage when not in use. I went to drive it the other day and when I opened the door I was overwhelmed by a chemically smell. I can best describe it as paint or nail polish remover. There don't appear to be any leaks and the engine is still practically new. What could this smell be??

Are you sure it's not gasoline? Make sure your A/C is still working. Other than that, it really has to be something that someone left in the car, possibly the trunk. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Positively certain it's not gasoline. Could an AC leak give off a smell in the interior like nail polish remover or paint thinner (acetone)?

No, not really. refrigerant doesn't smell like that and the A/C would stop working in short order. It has to be something spilled in the trunk or elsewhere in the car.

Thanks for the quick reply! Guess I'll need to keep digging around and see if I can locate the spill.
