2008 Ford Ranger 2.0 engine I think... Sign In

2008 Ranger 45 thousand miles just had 2 new rotors put on and brakes are new.... Got it back today and when I stop it seemed ok.. But after a few miles when I pressed the pedal I felt a pull sensation I heard some kind of noise and I felt the pedal move a little.. Any idea what this may be?? The ford dealership put the rotors on and said the brakes were new on it.. Please help!!!

It sounded like a metal type noise and when pressing the brake it seemed to pull to the left and to be honest it didnt seem to want tot stop but it did.. When I took off and stopped again it didnt do it.. Its like it does it then its fine for a few more stops and then it will do it again....

If you cant fix it then dont mess with it...

Sounds like you had a false ABS activation. That is probably due to a problem with the exciter ring on one of the rotors or damage to one of the speed sensors. The computer is getting a bad speed reading at low speed making the computer think there is a brake lock up in one of the wheels.

Hammer is this an easy fix and will it cost a lot??? I sure wished they would of noticed this while they had it... It wasnt doing this before I took it in...

Also if it was a caliber would it be worst??

Also what kind of damage will occur if not fixed and will I lose braking all together?

This is something they should be fixing under warranty. It's likely a defective or wrong rotor. I have had the problem before using aftermarket rotors. It's and catches you by surprise. a little dangerous because, as you said, it effects your braking

Not under warranty whatever it may be.. They said it could not be the rotor they are new... So IDK they gave me a rental car said they would call Monday.. I just bought this truck last friday... I sold my chevy it was giving me way to many problems.. I will never buy another car from carmax... Hopefully they will get me straight and oh by the way I do not have to pay for whatever is wrong thats a good thing.. Hammer when I drove it this morning it only happens when braking at low speeds... Its kind of scary because it feels like its not going to stop but it does.... I do like dealing with dealerships better they have been really nice to me and even told me sorry about this dejavou..... Please chime back in if you think of anything else...Werid how it wasnt doing it before I had this work done...

That's a typical symptom of a speed sensor not reading accurately at low speeds. The new rotors is just too much of a coincidence.

Thanks Hammer how have things been for you???

I am happy to say my mother has finished her treatments and so far she is cancer free.. The Dr said the next year in a half will be crucial but she will not be in the clear for the next 5.. I am just happy she is done with chemo that mess is potent...

I do hope its a speed sensor I hope they pinpoint what I am hearing and feeling...Like I said it dosent do it at every stop and I know how people are they will say we couldnt find the problem have a good day.....

Oh buddy - you've had your share of truck troubles! Just some ideas and maybes for this but it really isn't your problem IMO if just purchased from a dealer.

* Yes new parts can be bad out of the box.

* If truck was submerged over brake calipers they could be an issue as warm dust seals really aren't meant to seal out cool water. That should stay frozen if so IMO.

* The flex hose could be locking pressure then correct itself. Usually failures with those just overheat a brake and a quick test proves it.

** No games - this is their problem to figure out and fix as you just bought it. If this poor truck is possessed (not really with cars but it does seem to happen with some) will they let you pick another now?

Side note: I've had good and bad luck with used cars - never owned a new one. Private sales were the best buys and one from a shyster used car dealer did turn out fine and I beat him up on price.

Generally the new car dealers will only keep the best trade ins and wholesale out any they don't want, have too many miles, or older than policy of a place. You pay for it though!

They just have a flat rate tech that isn't willing to spend that much non-productive time driving it to duplicate the problem.

Re: 2008 Ford Ranger 2.0 engine I think... Sign In

That's exactly what I said in the first place. The tone ring on the new rotor either has a problem or is in the wrong position so the speed sensor is not reading it correctly.

Well ford place called me back asked me could I come and ride with the mechanic again.. That way he could look at his laptop and see which well gives out the reading... We rode 20 miles and it didnt do it once he claims he hasnt fixed it and that was weird.. I think he fixed it.. IDK anyway he said since it didnt do it he was going to take both rotors off and look at them.. What do you think Hammer????

Re: 2008 Ford Ranger 2.0 engine I think... Sign In

I think when he removed the rotors he resolved the issue, even if he didn't realize it. I'm betting he repositioned one of the tone rings while he had the rotor off and that solved it.

That's what I said and they denied from the beginning. Glad it's resolved.
