Mercury Mountaineer 2007 with about 90,000 miles. Recently had the EGR valve replaced and the fuel filter replaced (about a month ago).

Before it was replaced, it seemed to make a louder than normal engine noise (not much louder, just a little)....from about 45-60 MPH. The RPMs don't shoot up, but it felt like it just wasn't getting full power. The mechanic I took it to, thought maybe it could be the fuel filter and replaced it with a motorcraft one.

Anyway, it is still doing it. I have no idea what it could be. I know alot about fixing computers, but nothing about fixing cars, unfortunately. Any ideas?

Not sure what kind of problem your trying to describe. Would have to drive it to see what your talking about.

Check engine light on?

No, check engine light isn't on.
When you drive and hit about 45 mph, it gets a little louder, like the engine is revving more than normal...like the engine is working a good bit harder than it normally does, but the rpm is staying the same. Youi also have to push a little more on the gas than normal...to get it from 45-60....

so, more noise all of a sudden at 45-60....and you have to push harder on the gas....and you seem to get less power...and it sounds like engine is revving more....but you get less power....even though you have to push on the gas a little harder and the rpm isn't shooting up....

Was your mechanic able to duplicate your concern?

Which engine does this have? Did your mechanic check the operation of the fan clutch?

I don't know if he was able to duplicate my concern. I had just described what was going on beforehand and he said it might be the fuel filter. And he replaced it.

It has the V6 2WD. I don't know if he checked the fan clutch. Probably not. he didn't mention it.

even if the CEL is not on, scan for codes-

two things that I woild check as they MAY explain symptoms ... fuel pressure - use a gauge, do an exhaust back pressure test...and post readings,
