Ok, all three of the issues in my subject line happened within a couple of days of each other. My fuel needle started first. I put gas in the car and the needle goes to empty as I am driving or just sitting still. I turned the car on today, after driving it for awhile that day and both headlights did not come on. Fog lights and reverse lights work, but headlights do not. Also stock cd player will not accept a cd, keeps kicking the cd out, stating check cd. Did this with several cd's. My main issue though are the headlights and fuel needle. Never had an issue with anything before this. PLEASE HELP! Thanks!

Those problems are likely not related and would need to be posted in separate questions.

I will address the fuel gauge in this question............

The sulfur they put in today's gas has a very bad effect on the float mechanisms and causes them to fail often. The tank will have to be dropped and the sender replaced.

Before you go ripping the gas tank out you should check for trouble codes in the PCM and do some diagnosis first.

The PCM monitors the fuel level sender's performance and also checks it's circuits for opens and shorts. Codes that could set are P0461,P0462,P0463, and/or P0464 if there is a problem in the fuel level sender's circuits or the sender itself. If the PCM detects a performance problem or problem in the sender wiring, it will default the gauge to empty. Another thing is that the PCM sends the information about fuel level to the instrument cluster via a data line. The cluster processor uses this information to control the fuel gauge.

Using a scan tool, it is important to compare the information the PCM is seeing and what the cluster processor is seeing to be sure you don't have a problem going on inside the cluster.

You'll probably have to take it to a shop that can monitor the fuel level reading and check for codes on the manufacture side of the PCM using an enhanced scan tool to have it diagnosed properly.

And when you're all done with all the expensive equipment that you don't have, then you can drop the tank and replace the sender that goes all the time............ your choice

and $380 is an expensive guess. Hope you don't use the silver bullet approach at your shop.

First, this poster doesn't own a shop or have access to the equipment you suggest an second, it's called past experience which is what the posted asked for, not all the technical hoops you want him to jump through.
You don't have to worry about how things are done in my shop because a trouble making A$$ like you would never work there.

thanks for the replies. We are checking it out. My husband turned on the car yesterday and lights came on with no problem. Not sure about fuel thing yet. CD player may be a spring or something that was broken by someone trying to shove a cd in when another was in there. UGH!

Thanks for your reply. This does sound like a logical thing to do before doing any expensive work. Diagnose the situation first and then take it from there. Appreciate your time. Will update.

They have a special policy of the fuel level sender on the trailblazers, call your local gm dealer and see if you're still eligible.
