I have a 2006 Mazda tribute that we recently had the transmission worked on. When picking up the vehicle we found that the remote would unlock every door except the drivers door. We also noticed (how could you not) that the tire pressure gauge light on the dash would blink for a few minutes and then stop. I have checked the pressure in tires which are all brand new and they have the correct amount of air. The dealership that replaced the trans said they did nothing that would have caused this problem. I do know that they put a brand new battery in the car because I brought it to him. Please help

TPMS Indicator Flashes
The TPMS indicator flashes (flashes 20 to 30 seconds) after bulb-check for the following conditions:

  1. Tire Pressure Sensor Fault - If equipped, the message center will display "TIRE SENSOR FAULT" when a tire pressure sensor is malfunctioning.
  2. No communication with the SJB (TPMS is integral to the SJB) - The TPMS indicator is illuminated when the instrument cluster has received no signals from the SJB for more than 5 seconds. If equipped, the message center displays "TIRE MONITOR FAULT".
  3. Tire Pressure Monitor Fault - If equipped, the message center will display "TIRE MONITOR FAULT" when the tire pressure monitoring system is malfunctioning.

What if it is not equipt with this monitor? All I get is the blinking light and then it stops.

You just said you have a tire pressure light on. That's what that is.

All new cars have a tire pressure monitoring system for a few years now.

Yes this I have come to realize the hard way. I guess my main concern was that it and the key less entry were working fine before the shop replaced the battery and transmission and now neither if them is right

Do you have multiple remotes and only one not working, or is it all not working, idk much account mazdas but maybe they're different from domestics and it just needs to be programmed to the vehicle again?

Well in a case like this, obviously you will want to go back to the shop and find out what is going on and get a logical answer....

Since I can't look at the car and don't know all the details, it comes down to one of 2 things....either both of these failed on their own or it was tech error.

Most of the shops I've worked at, if a tech "breaks" something, they will take care of it & make it right BUT...While I wouldn't say it's common...it's definitely not rare either where a car comes in, you work on it & something else that is totally unrelated to your work fails...Out of all the techs here, I gaurantee all of them could tell you a few stories of things breaking on cars that they worked on that was there fault...

I suppose electrical parts have a higher rate because either they work or they don't, when they fail, thats it, they just go out, one time they work & the next time they don't.

So let the 1st shop tell you what is wrong.....If their answer doesn't make sense to you, then the next logical step would be to get another opinion from a different shop.....

One thing I'll have to admit, is I would have to say it's pretty rare for 2 seperate things to fail at once......But the strange thing here is the door actuator, barring a power or ground to that in the door, there really isn't much else to cause just one to fail. In 90% of complaints like this that I see, it's an actuator gone bad & the other 10% is in the door jam wiring.. And while it's meanless to your problem...Over the last 2 weeks I've had 3 seperate cars come in with TPMS sensor failures, from other shops, that had routine maintenance done and the sensors went bad.....with no obvious damage to the sensor...In all cases, just the tires were rotated.....

This has really peaked my curiousity.....I hope you let us know of the out come....

Does the driver's door unlock using the power door lock button?

The shop or a shop needs to scan the smart junction box(SJB) for trouble codes. Certain codes can disable outputs. The SJB is also in charge of the TPMS.
