2006 Ford Escape
3.0 L V6
148,000 miles

This might be long. I posted something to the electrical part of the forum but our problems are getting worse and it’s not just electrical.
A couple weeks ago we noticed our car “stumbling” while going uphill and occasionally while accelerating. It also seemed like it took longer to reach the speed limit and was vibrating. My husband changed the fuel filter and it seemed to get better for a couple days but then started doing it again.
Before we could even get it into a shop, I was driving it and the gauges all quit working while I was driving. The car was still running and I was able to drive home with no gauges (the windows, lights, and radio also stopped). After I got home and turned the car off for a few hours, it wouldn’t start again and made the clicking noise like a dead battery. Jumped it and took it somewhere to be scanned and was told it was the alternator. Took it to a shop and fixed the alternator (which was a hard job on this car and really expensive). We got the car back on Friday and Saturday night my husband drove it and realized that it was running worse than ever and stumbling and vibrating. Had it scanned and it showed a misfire in cylinder 2. Was told it was probably spark plugs. Again, changing spark plugs is hard and expensive on this stupid car. The shop changed all 6 and the coil. Got it back today. The check engine light came on and another scan says P0403.
Now the cruise control won’t work and it started making a loud humming noise (maybe like a fan) and the heat gauge was going up over 3/4.

Im freaking out. Every day it seems like something else goes wrong.

Take it back and have them check things over. It's possible some connectors are loose from doing the plugs and causing these problems.

FYI... Overheats are one of the biggest killer of engines. Once it goes past 3/4 you need to pull over and let it cool down right away. The worst thing is being close to home.... I couldn't count how many seized engines I've seen because the customer was close and thought they could make it home.....Well.... they did make it home, but the engine never started again.

I’m sorry. I didn’t know what the correct thing to do was since I no longer think the problem is electrical. I do apologize!

My husband called a friend and they were outside checking stuff late last night. They bled out the cooling system and while they were messing around they found a loose connection and plugged it back in. It was the same part that was causing the code. They cleared the check engine light and my husband drove it all around town and then on the highway some and the light never came back on and it didn’t overheat.
I have to drive it to work today and I’m slightly terrified but hoping it’s ok.
