2006 Chrysler Sebring brake problem?

2006 Chrysler Sebring brake problem?

Have recently bought a 2006 Chrysler Sebring. Noticed when I apply the brakes there's a clicking and rattling noise in the right front (assume it's right front wheel). It handles fine (so far) but the noise just started. What could this be? Btw it has 73,000 miles and Carfax report stated rotors were resurfaced at 36,000 miles

The fact that the rotors needed resurfacing at that low a mileage would mean that someone was driving it pretty aggressively and with a history like that, resurfacing would not have been the right option, replacement would have. I suspect you have a distortion in the rotors now that is causing the pads to move around in their holders.

It could be just a loose pad or hardware.
Since the car is new to you it would be a good idea to get it thoroughly inspected. Previous history is great but you really want to know where you're at while all the systems and maintenance.
If this is the 6 cyl there is a few things you need to be aware of.....These engines have a sludging problem Chrysler has tried to blame this on the owners which just isn't so... This sludging problem creates oiling problems and can starve the timing chain tensioner creating noise and worse problems. The water pump is chain driven so when it starts to leak, the repair is sometimes put off due to the cost. Leaky pumps make the sluge problem even worse....
I would switch to synthetic oil right away and stay on top of the oil changes, do not go over the due time, this is critical on these...

I have the V6.
I'm unclear what you mean by sludging problems. Could you be more specific?
Edit: just googled it. Wish I'd had researched the Sebring a little better before i bought it.

It's not as bad as you think.
Sludging is just what it means. Deposits build up an plug things up so parts than need oil don't get all the oil it needs. So maintenance if very important on these.
Some cars take abuse better than other ones, this one doesn't. Abuse in this case would be putting off timely maintenance like oil changes & coolant flushes, this will contribute to the sludge problem. Also keep an eye on the temp, you want to be sure the T stat is working properly, engines that run too cool will also build up sludge.
The mileage is still fairly low and hopefully has been maintained well..
The one big thing I would do would be to switch to a synthetic oil and keep up on it. Synthetics won't sluge as much as a natural based oil.
That and maintaining the cooling system and you should be good.
The one thing I will mention not to put off if it ever happens and that is to change the water pump if it ever starts to leak. I couldn't count how many leaky 2.7 water pumps I have written up that need to be replaced and seriously could count on one hand twice how many I've done. I can sympathize, it's a big cost due to being timing chain driven but the cost of putting it off can be way worse..... Just make sure you find a shop that is familiar with them. It's not the hardest job to do but the tensioner set up is a little different, so you want to be sure everything is right before start up.....
These aren't bad cars and there are a lot of them pounding the ground, if you keep up on everything you should be ok. The Sebring is a nice ride and fun to drive I don't think you made a bad choice. I just wanted to make sure you were aware of possible problems that could arise from neglect
If you are the type of driver that just puts gas in the car and only goes to the shop when there is a problem then you are probably not going to have a very good experience with this car..

thanks for your input. It's been very valuable. btw, when should i have the cooling system flushed and how often? I'm sure you've already guessed I'm mechanically ignorant. lol
