I am not a very mechanically inclined person but here goes.

2006
Chrysler
Pacifica
3.5 liter V6
150,000 km

For the past few months the car has started intermittently. I replaced the battery and appeared to solve the problem. It now will not start unless I boost the car. Once the car is started it runs great. Not sure what might be the problem.

Thanks

clean the power and ground terminals both at the battery and at the other ends. They need to be shiny and tight. Put some dielectric grease on them when you put them back together to hold off future corrosion.

When the contact surface of the battery cable gets corroded, it won't allow enough amperage through to allow the car to start. The jumper cables hook onto the outer surface of that end, so together enough amps can get through to start the car. Once the car is running, it requires far less amperage so a marginal connection will still supply enough current.

Check for corrosion and give it a good cleaning and let us know what you find.

Tried this but to no avail. Any other thoughts?

Have the battery charged and tested first. Once you have a known good battery, then you can have the charging system tested and if that checks out good, then you test for a parasitic draw when it's parked.

Thanks for the help everyone. Even though I had a new battery it was the battery. It was not holding a charge. I also tested my alternator using a voltmeter and it appears to be working.

You might want to make sure that you don't have any parasitic draw on it.

There is a procedure for finding a battery draw like that.

You will need a digital ammeter and a jumper wire with clips on the ends to do this.
First rig any door switches so you can have a door open without triggering the interior lights and unplug the hood light. Remove one battery cable and attach the meter in series between the battery cable and battery post. Take the jumper wire and also attach it the same way. Leave the jumper wire on for at least 10 minutes to expire all the automatic timers. Now remove the jumper wire and read the meter. Anything over 50ma is too much draw. The way you locate this is to start removing fuses one at a time until the meter drops to normal level. This will be the circuit with something staying on. Determine what components are part of that circuit and check them individually until the problem is isolated.
