2005 dodge dakota will not stay running
|

I have a 2005 dodge dakota v-8 engine with 65000 miles. It has been running fine until recently. I got in and cranked it up and it just shut off. I kept repeating and repeating. I finally got going down the road and it shut off while driving. Sometimes it will come right back on and sometimes I have to shift to neutral start it back up. There is no trouble code showing even with my scan tool. I replaced the crank sensor and checked the cam sensor, and nothing seems to help. It is running so bad now I can't even get it backed out of the garage. Thanks for any and all help.

What is the fuel pressure?
Does it only stall if your foot isn't on the gas?

Fuel pressure is in the upper 50's. It does not fluctuate when it stalls. The pressure stays solid. It stalls both when I give it gas and while driving, and when it is just idleing.

When you state it is running bad, what do you mean? Is it misfiring at idle?

This one is going to be a little hard to figure out because you need to see what goes missing or wacky when it starts missing and shutting off.
You might need to take it to a shop that has an enhanced scan tool to look at datastream info. If they have drive-ability tech and he is using a lab scope, he can scope different parts of the engine system such as injectors, coils, and computer inputs to see what goes awry.
Drive-ability problems on the modern engines are hard to figure out unless you have the right equipment and expirience with leaves most DIY in the dark. That is unless you find something obvious.

Just wanted to let you know that the problem has been solved. I found corrosion around the transmission relay in the fuse box. Cleaned it up and put electrical grease on it. Working good so far.
