Hello
i have a problem. my 2005 VW Polo Classic keeps overheating and boiling over the coolant. i first noticed this when i was driving slowly in traffic where i saw steam coming from under the bonnet. i stopped had the car, let it cool down, refilled the coolant as it had reduced to under the minimum and drove on. i have however noticed that this overheating only occurs when i am stuck in traffic, it happened twice again after the first incident..in traffic. when i drive on a free road the car will act normally and the temperature indicator would even show that it cools itself down.nwhat is the problem here, please assist.

Check to see if the cooling fans are coming on before it boils.

I don't think they sell that exact car in the US but doesn't matter on this. Fans must come on like Hammer Time said. Some are just a temp switch on radiator or they just plain gave out.

Don't waste a second to fix that or you will not like the expense! -- T

Because that's when it gets hot, not so when moving along............... T

Because a moving car pushes as much air as the fan would have. The fan is only necessary when the car is not moving fast enough.
