2005 VW Jetta overheating

2005 VW Jetta overheating Sign In

  My 05 Jetta 2.0L (gas engine) started to overheat/no heat inside cabin. The hose from the themostat housing to the radiator is cold,the hoses by the temp.sensor on the back (drivers side) of the engine are hot. The other hose to the radiator is hot. One hose leading to the heater core is hot, the other is warm. Anyway,I changed the thermostat and test drove, still have the same problem. It's not leaking coolant or getting alot of pressure at the cap. Could it be the water pump or is that too obvious? The car has 75,000 miles if that helps. Thank you. Lou

You could have a clog in the radiator not allowing the water to flow through the hose to the thermastat. Try diconnecting the radiator drain plug and bottom hose allowing all the water/coolant to drain. add water through the radiator cap and see if if pores from the bottom hose and drain nozel. If it does then it could be the water pump.

I only answer those I have some kind of knowledge about. This happened to my fathers car before. He had a clog in the radiator and decided it would be quicker to replace it then to fix it (he is a very impatient man). It then ran without a problem. Which is why I Suggested that.

     Sorry it took so long to reply,I checked it further and determined it has to be the water pump. I pulled the pump and found the original pump is made of plastic (impeller) and was broken in two. I replaced it w/ a pump that has a metal impeller and changed the timing belt. Runs like new, thank you for the help. Lou Felice
