This has happened twice now, and it's been after cold nights (maybe this is relevant...)
When I turn the key to start the car, the dashboard lights blink, and i can hear the car trying to start, but it won't catch on. Eventually, after trying 30+ times, it finally turns on.

I think we're not supposed to post links in the forum, but here's the video I recorded this morning of me trying to start my VW golf:

I guess the battery light is the one that blinks the most... the other lights flicker, but they seem to stay on...

Thanks in advance for any leads!

I'm no professional mechanic but the first thing I would do is check the battery terminals for corrosion, clean the terminals and make sure they are tight. If that doesn't do it I'd get the battery tested. Maybe check and clean the terminals on the starter too. If still no luck it's possible there could be a loose ground. I had a similar problem a few years back with a Chevy Venture. The battery terminal would never stay completely tight no matter how much I tightened it down. Sometimes there wouldn't be any power at all and other times it would click. I'd have to pop the hood and wiggle the positive cable in order to start it. It seems like your VW is not getting the juice needed to turn it over.

I believe it's fine posting a link that is geared towards your car. Well, unless you're trying to sell it! I think they mean more of a link to promote or sell a product or any kind a advertisements.

That link is allowable. Its your own video showing the issue you are having.

Like MG said, you need to start at the battery. Make sure it is fully charged and capable of delivering the full needed amperage. Along with that your connections must be clean, shiny and tight. If the cables can't carry the power even a new battery won't do any good. Most auto parts stores will test your battery for free to determine if it is still good.

Thank you guys both, you at least gave me a place to start.
I'm so lost when it comes to car problems.
Thanks very much!

No problem. Hopefully it's something simple like the battery. If not, check and clean all of those connections. Actually, do that anyways even if it ends up being the battery. It's good preventative maintenance. Once you do this let us know where you're at with it.
