2005 Mazda6 wants to go with brake on Sign In

Hello,

My son has been having a problem with his 2005 Mazda6. When he is driving it, he will be driving just fine, but as soon as he lets off the gas, the RPM's will jump anywhere between 500-1000 rpm's and jerk the car forward during each jump, and it will do this until he pushes on the the gas pedal again. also, when he is coming to a stop, the car will not shift out of 4th gear until he is almost completely stopped, and when he start going again, he gets to about 10 miles an hour and it jumps right into 4th gear. He just took it for a 140 mile drive on the freeway and it was just fine, but as soon as he got into town going about 20-30 mph is when he started having these problems. When he finally parked it, he had to push down on the pedal real hard to keep the car from driving off on its own, like it was revving really high and wanted to take off. and it was also smelling like burnt rubber or like something was burning. We went and had the transmission checked by a mazda dealership and they said it had "internal Failure", but took it to the local AAMCO transmission shop, and they said they could not find anything wrong with it. so IDK what to do at this moment. He is scared to drive it because he doesnt want it to break down on him. Please help if you can!

Thank you,

? This is like a "he said, she said thing" and it's been checked with whatever "internal failure" means. What was suggested to do on that work order? If something found then and not done how is anything going to get fixed?

Thanks for the reply, I did not see a work order but my son told me they told him it would be right at $2800 to fix it and that is when I had him bring it down to take a look at it and get a second opinion. The tranny might be the problem but I do know one thing, aamco in our area has a very good rep and I also know if there is something wrong they want to work on it and they could find nothing at all wrong. Maybe they missed it just don't know at this point.

Again, thank you

Unless all changed Aamco is a trans specialty place but would have to know more about vehicles in general and would be reading codes and more.

If you got a price already for a fix of $2,800 bucks it should have said what the heck was needed to come up with a price. What did that one say?

Lost with this. One place finds that much needed and another nothing wrong? Crystal ball here is overworked already. If shops and techs with it in their hands can't tell you what exactly it needs a web site sure can't,

Hello and thanks again. That is what kind of had me baffled when the mazda place looked at it as all they said was it had internal failure and that is all they said to him and told him how much to fix.

Again, thank's for the replies,

Mazda came up with a price so they must have found something or pulling games with you.

Perhaps start over with an independent and get this car checked out with an itemized list and prices of suggested work and needed work right away, in writing so you know what you are dealing with,
