There is a hole in one of the parts of my car, and I am unsure as to what part it is. If its a transmission its an expensive fix, but if its a transfer case or some other part I would be in luck. Can anybody identify this part? I have the 4wd model which is an auto 4wd and the part as you might be able to see is located where the cv axle comes into that part. http://autoforums.carjunky.com/photos/pic/244zZQvs/932.jpg http://autoforums.carjunky.com/photos/pic/244zZQvs/933.jpg http://autoforums.carjunky.com/photos/pic/244zZQvs/934.jpg

That's the front transaxle. You're looking at some money there. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

what kind of repair costs would i be looking at if i replaced it? would there be a way to have a professional welder weld an aluminum patch? Or would i be better off selling the vehicle and not dealing with it?

You can forget the welding. Installing a used one is the only reasonable way to fix it. You will have to get a shop to call around and give you an estimate.
