2005 Dodge Grand Caravan Electronic Key - Won't Start Sign In

I dropped the only key I have in the driveway and it fell apart ( Battery and cover came off). I put it back together and attempted to start the van, but it cut off after about a second and had a red flashing circle on the dashboard. I attempted it another 4 or 5 times and now it won't even turn over. The lock and panic button don't work, either. The red circle is no longer flashing, but constant when I have the key in the ignition and turn it on. I checked the key and I accidentally had the battery in backwards, so I turned it around and got the locks and panic button to work, but it still won't start (or even turnover) and the red circle is still constant on the dashboard. I looked in the owner's manual to find out exactly what this red circle is, but can't find anything. Does anybody know how to reset this so I can get my van to start?

After 6 failed attempts you get locked out. If the key is still good, then it should eventually start but if the key has been damaged you will have to tow it to the dealer for a new key and programming.

But if I got the lock/unlock buttons and panic button to work (the only buttons on the key) to work, that tells me the key is not damaged. I was told several years ago at the Dodge dealer nearest to me that this type of key has a chip inside the key (the actually metal part of the key that is inserted into the ignition). I don't know if this this is entirely correct, but I don't see how this can damaged. Right now I disconnected both the positive and negative terminals to the battery in hopes of maybe resetting it. I'll post if that works or not. I did this about 45 minutes ago. Any idea what it takes to reset things on computer modules?

You are wrong. the key can be damaged and the buttons still work. If the key was working, the car would be starting. There is nothing inside the metal part. It's all under the plastic.
