2004 Pontiac Sunfire, mysterious demise?! (Solved) Sign In

Alright, so first thing is first, I know nill, nada, and just about nothing about a car besides the most general of facts, like.. turning a key and the general uses of most of the main parts (alternator, engine block, tranny).

I'm posting in place of my husband who is too hard headed and angry at the moment to ask for help.

We recently got work done on the car (in feb, so it's been a few months now), body kit, new fuel injector, that kind of thing.. I think he had some new air intake system as well.

So this is what happened, first thing you should know, 1) The car has a stereo system with the amp in the trunk and 2) The handles on the doors have been shaved off and the drivers side opens with the alarm turn off.. pushy clicker thing.

On his way home, he said there was a crackling sound over his amp before it went out and he smelt a bit of smoke. He told me "I think a wire got crossed or something." and went and in his exact words "fixed" the power line to the amp which I guess was the culprit.

To do so, he stated, that he disconnected the battery (I don't know if he tried to start the car again when the battery was connected in the first place, but I would imagine so since the door was still popping open like it should at that point.). Fixed the wire, reconnected the battery and then...

Well now the car won't turn over, the starter clicks but no starting. Also, the alarm won't arm or disarm and the door will no longer pop open BUT all the lights and everything in the car is still working, or as he says "even the asldkfjaldksf trunk light is coming on."

As we don't have the funds after all the previous work to go to the shop unless we have no choice, so... if anyone has any idea what might have happened, please help. x_x

Recap.

1) Issue with power line to amp in back. Everything else working.
2) Disconnected battery, fixed line.
3) Reconnected battery, now lights work but doors and alarm do not and car will not turn over.

Hellp

In short - if starter just clicks there's low amps available,

Hrm. Thank you for responding but.. it's not the battery at all.

Apparently the alarm system got tripped/glitched and is stopping the fuel injection system. We're taking it in, in the morning, to get the systems reset.

That would have nothing to do with the starter cranking.
