2003 Hyundai Tiburon GT Seatbelt Locked & Key Stuck In Ignition Sign In

2003
Hyundai
Tiburon GT
2.7L
72,000

So I bought a salvaged title and it has issues with it go figure... but I'm just wondering since the car was in an accident and the driver's seatbelt is locked how to fix this? and how much would it cost. Secondly the key doesn't remove from the ignition. The guy who sold it said you could take the shifter cover(i guess) off and press down on one of the two cables that run to the ignition with a screw driver and the key would come out. However that is a bit time consuming I was wondering if there is a permanent fix.

Thanks!

Well for the seatbelt you will just have to buy one from the dealer.

The key stuck in the ignition is gonna be a little tough because you might be able to get by with just fixing the ignition release switch hooked up to the shifter, but you might need to just buy a new ignition module from Hyundai.

In the future don't ever buy a salvaged vehicle. They are nightmares.

I would be very interested in hearing the the theory behind this diagnosis.........------->grabbing popcorn & a hot cup of coffee...

Actually Nate got 1/2 of this right. You probably will need to by a new safety belt...

As for the key. Pressing the button on the console is just bypassing the shifter interlock. Check all your fuses and make sure the brk light switch is working. After that you will just have to trace down the wiring for the solenoid. My database is down but maybe HT or someone can post a diagram for you.....

I think he has a little different problem here Sidom. It sounds like the shifter is not returning the ignition lockout so it will allow the key to be shut off all the way. That's probably a cable issue between the console and the steering column.
