I have a 2003 ('03) VW Golf Match 1.6 16v with about 145,000 miles.
Recently i have had some trouble getting it started if it's been sat for a couple of days. I first noticed it after my weekend off work. When it came to monday morning my remote locking worked fine and the dashboard was fine. The moment i fully turned the key i had the dreaded dead battery feeling, it cranked extremely slowly, but it did just about manage to start up, although it reset the dash in the process.
In a moment of not knowing what to do i turned the engine straight back off to see if it was a one off, the engine then started straight away without a problem.
This confused me the most as one would assume if an almost dead battery just about managed to start the engine, that it wouldnt be able to do so straight away again without substantial charging.
Once the car was on all the electrical systems worked perfectly which gives me the impression the alternator is ok, and i dont have any warning lights.
This problems keeps occurring whenever my car is not used for over a day.
Normally i would assume it's the battery needing to be replaced but just the fact i can restart the engine immediately that's throwing me off, i dont want to buy a new battery if it's not the problem.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Make sure the battery is fully charged and have it tested first.
