2003 Sierra 1/2 ton 4.8 4x4 Right after I bought the truck I noticed the ac/heater blower would only blow on setting number 5. The next day it wouldn't blow at all. I changed the blower motor resistor thinking that would take care of my problem but it didn't. I checked the fuse and swapped it with another and still no luck. I went to a buddy's house who has an 04 and swapped out the main control. Mine worked in his but no luck with his in mine. I unplugged the connector that goes to the blower motor and checked with a mulitmeter and it's getting juice. 12.7 if I remember right. Is there a relay I need to check or is the blower motor toast? Is there a way to check the blower motor such as running a jumper to it to see if it runs? Thanks again for any help. This is one heck of a great forum!

The relay is built into the resister. You need to test for both power and ground at the blower motor but I'm guessing the motor is toast. The excessive current draw would be what took out the resister too. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Just to add, did you inspect the blower resistor connector? Seen them get hot and melt. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Thanks for the help. I decided to pull the blower motor and put power to it. Didn't even attempt to spin. I installed a new one and it now works great. Now it's time to see if the ac works. It was missing the ac belt. Here was actually a small piece of the belt jammed behind the pulley. I'm guessing the belt broke is one of the previous owners didn't wanna mess with it or pay to have it fixed. The compressor pulley turns freely but the tensioner pulley has a little resistance. I'm in the process of changing that out now. I also picked up a receiver drier and an orifice tube. Gonna replace those and then pull a vacuum. Hopefully there won't be any leaks and that the compressor works. We will find out. Thanks again!

They also had problems on those trucks with the compressors slugging and popping belts and breaking tensioners. They updated the compressor and software. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Before you put the belt on make sure you can grab the center of the compressor and turn it by hand. If the compressor siezed up while running and snapped the belt before it will snap this one.

Unfortunately it needed a new compressor. I put that in Wednesday night. Pulled a vacuum and left the gauges on all night to check for leaks. The needle didn't move at all overnight. Filled it yesterday morning and it works great. After that is when I tackled the u joints and then changed the diff fluid and noticed the chipped gear. The only thing left to do to the truck is the diff, power steering hose (already replaced power steering pump), change t case fluid, and possibly front diff leak. I think the power steering fluid may be dripping down and blowing on the diff so it may not be leaking. We're getting there. Once the truck is done it will then be time to tackle the transmission on the Venture.

Holy smokes buddy - you have more going on than some shops! Just my quick note is with leaks try to clean off evidence and look for it to return highest and usually most forward as the source - or of course if bad enough which fluid is low! T

Thanks Tom....I should've replaced the power steering hoses when I did the pump but they looked okay. I can tell it's leaking at one of the fittings. Gonna replace it, clean everything up, and then check for leaks. I've had to do a few things to this truck but considering what I bought it for it is well worth it. She'll be race ready before long.

Not sure what to say on life expectancy of PS hoses? Have had some go 30+ years and some in no time. Agreed - the time to replace if doing a pump would be then. Have one of my own putting out a drip to find out exactly where to be ready. I wouldn't consider that a waste but go for quality - it pays, T

Replaces the hoses and refilled. Time to clean up the engine compartment. My sister-in-law had a baby so we are leaving for KY around 3:30 today and will be gone all weekend. I won't be able to check for leaks until early next week. I keep thinking of excuses I could use to get out of going but I think my wife would probably cut me off for a few weeks! Suppose to get over 5" of rain and she hates driving in it. Thanks to everyone on here for helping us diy guys. You have no idea how much I appreciate it and can't say thanks enough! This is by far the best forum I have ever been a member of and Idon't don't only mean automotive forums. P.S. I also love it when HT tells it how it is. I just laugh when I hear him say, "You're crazy. I've had enough. I'm out of here." Us diy guys need to hear that if we try and half ass stuff. All the advice hear is top notch. Hope everyone has a great Labor Day weekend. Brian
