2003 Ford Ranger - Engine won't fire in bitter cold Sign In

2003
Ford
Ranger
3.0 liter V6
204,xxx miles

Couple weeks ago the temp got down to like 10 degrees. It took my car about 5 tries of 5-6 second long cranking each try for it to finally fire.

The weather warmed up and this never happened again.

4 days ago(SUNDAY), my car did it again, but I almost drained the entire battery until the engine fired. Not all in one shot, again of like 6 second cranks and 5 second breaks.

The tank was almost empty that night, so when it started I went to the gas station, put in a bottle of gasoline anti-freeze, and filled the tank to about 3/4 a tank.

Monday morning it wouldn't start. It was very very cold again. I drained the entire battery and couldn't get it started.

I recharged the battery and have been trying every morning and night for it to start, but it will not. It is now Wednesday and I am still car-less.

It has been around 10 degrees for the last week and there are no signs of changing.

Before I pay $100 to get towed to a heated garage or god forbid a repair shop, is there any cheap solutions I can try?

I live in an apartment complex so I don't have a garage or anything. A mechanic friend told me to dump a bottle of dry gas into the tank and wait about an hour. Is this a viable option?

Thank you in advance for all your help!

This is not really a way to make friends or influence the people that are going to answer the questions. Good luck
