2003 Corolla won't start. Sign In

I tried to start my 2003 Corolla in the morning,it worked
fine a day before. When I turn key on starter does not turn the engine. I've checked starter at parts store and
it is fine. Battery is fine too. There is a click I can hear
when I turn key on under dashboard where the passenger airbag is.

Do you have a digital volt meter or a 12 volt test light and know how to use them?

No I do not. Should I buy one and learn how to use it?

Did you try starting the car with a charger hooked up or jumping off another car?

I'm assuming when you took in the starter to be tested (which is kinda a worthless test) that you took the battery in as well?

I've tried to start it by jumping off another car, and I can still hear that "click" inside under dashboard passenger side. I did not check battery at the store but
I turn lights and wipers on and there is plenty of power.

That doesn't mean anything.......that stuff takes the least amount of power to operate.....The starter takes the most amount...

Take the battery out and go have it tested....make sure you are working with a good battery before you do any testing...

Also make sure the terminals & cables are clean when you put it back in.....A dirty connection could cause the same problem...

You really need a 12 volt test lamp and/or digital volt meter to troubleshoot this. You also have to know how to use them. Your working on an electrical problem, so you need something to take electrical measurements with.

Like DS....to go any further you are going to need some tools.....

Just to back up a bit.......Are you sure the battery cables are good & clean?....If you don't have a terminal cleaner, they sell cheap ones at the parts store....

Also you are going to want to make sure there are no aftermarket alarms on the car...

Here's a quick crash course for you in electrical

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wLVu2HYtOhA

Watch the vid and it might help you more easily understand some of the steps the guys are going to ask you to take in diagnosing this. Its a pretty easy diagnosis for your car, but it'll slow things down being we don't have the car in front of us and you're new to doing this. Hang in there and we'll get you back on the road.

I finally fixed it. It was the starter. I will never take starter to be tested at auto parts. They told me my starter was good, but it wasn't. So the test is unreliable.

Thank you for trying to help me, you've been very helpful.
