2002 sentra se-r spec v front steering wheel shaking Sign In

I bought a 2002 sentra se r spec v a few months ago, when I bought it the front end shook and it pulled to the left. Long story short the dealer was a liar and didnt fix what was wrong. Turns out it had two bent rims. So i bought a set of four rims and tires off craigslist, all the tires seem to be in good condition with plenty of tread. I had the good rims and tires installed on the car, had the car aligned and the wheels balanced at my brothers shop, but the problem with the steering wheel vibrating and the car pulling to the left persists. The problem still persists. It pulls to the left and the front end vibrates pretty bad,(especially in the steering wheel and somewhat in the pedals). Then just last week I brought it into another shop and had the tires re-balanced, and the alignment is within specs. I am at wits end as to what it might be. Could it be something with the tires?(like tread seperation), or with the front end parts(bad tie rod end). The back right rim is just slightly bent, and i dont think that would have much to do with it vibrating and pulling and shaking so bad(or would it?)Any idea as to what it is that is causing this, or someone who has had similar problems and offer some advice that would be just awesome, it is so frustrating everytime I drive this car!!! Thank you for your advice!

Is any of this pulling changing when applying the brakes?

Does it pull all the time or just under acceleration? What speed is the vibration happening at?......Try swapping the frt tires & see if that makes any difference... Also check all the motor mounts and make sure none are broken (power brk the engine to check for mount movement)

When I apply the brakes and let go of the steering wheel it pulls to the left still.

It pulls and vibrates all the time(accelerating, coasting, decelerating.) The vibration happens at all speeds generally above 20. The tires are directional so I would have to move the back rims to the front, and the rear passenger rim is slightly bent so I dont want that one in front, but I guess I could try it with just the drivers side and see it that solves anything. And by power braking the engine do you mean just rev it while its in nuetral and see how badly it moves/vibrates?

Power braking is having it in drive while holding the brakes to floor you give it a little gas not enough to actually move the car but you will feel it lurch forward a bit. You need two people for your car though because your looking for a motor mount so one person power brakes and the other examines the engine. Does it vibrate at idle at all in any gear?

For the purpose of diagnosing you can swap directional tires from side to side & it won't hurt anything, the only thing is you have to put them back to the proper side after the test drive.

20 mph is pretty low for a vibration, at that speed I would be looking at the axles but a bad inner joint usually will only vibrate under acceleration. A seperated tire would do that but I'm assuming those have already been checked

To check the mounts, just put the car in drive, hold the brake & "goose" the gas while someone looks at the engine/mounts....If there is a bad mount, there will be excessive engine movement & you will be able to see the mount seperate. Then put it in reverse & repeat to check the other side....Don't go crazy on the gas, just enough to get the engine to move....

It would be helpful if you could post the alignment specs, before & after, that you have on the car

The alignment specs are: camber LF -.4, RF -1.1, LR -.9 RR -1.2. Caster LF 1.1, RF .8. Toe LF.11, RF .08, LR .06, RR .03. This is post alignment specs. It was having these same problems with pulling and the steering wheel vibrating with the old tires that I had on the car also. So when I had the new rims and tires put on, and had them all balanced and the car aligned it seems strange that it is still having the same problems as it did with the old tires and a bad alignment. I will try swapping the tires around and check the motor mounts and let you know. Thanks

Yea since you changed the tires & rims and have the same problem, the odds are very low that the problem is in those but it doesn't hurt to swap the frts and make sure there is nothing going on there, it only takes a little time and that way you can cross them off the list....

With the speeds you mention it really sounds like the vibration is going to be in the drivetrain and possibly the pull as well but there could be more that one problem..... I was curious if there were SAI & Included angle readings taken, the caster is a little backward but if the SAI is in that really shouldn't cause anything major....

I will swap tires asap and let you know if that does anything, I hope its not the driveline that sounds expensive. thanks again

swapped the tires around and the car rides a lot better. That tire just must have seperated treads. But now I have another problem, my back right brake is dragging, it is a disc brake, whats the best way to fix this? Can I just adjust it myself or will I have to get whole new calipers?

There are no adjustments. Make sure the parking brake is releasing all the way on that wheel.

checked the brake and the e brake is not on, it may be just the flex hose or just rusty sliding pins, at least i am hoping its just rusty sliding pins. I will check tomorrow and see if I can just grind that rust off and keep that caliper

Rust is very much a factor for you. I'm in Eau Claire so I feel your pain. Isn't salt fun?
