2002 ford taurus 3.0 86,000 miles. No start Sign In

Car turns over but no start after I replaced heads and head gaskets. Replaced fuel pump and filter. Fuel pressre is @ 40 psi. Pulled plug out and had spark. Checked compression on 4 5 and # 6 cylinders. If the crank shaft position sensor is bad would there stil be spark. How bout ecm or fuel injectors. Can't pull any codes, battery was disconnected. What to check next?[;)]

If it ran at all before this job recheck everything you touched.

If a hard code is there it will come right back so read codes anyway. You can check injectors with a noid light, or a quick prime with starting fluid and if that makes it run you know it's fuel delivery issues but don't know exactly what or why but isolates it to that,

It did run but engine temp would clime immediately to 3/4. Changed yhermostat and sending unit with no result. Was going to do a radiator flush but after talking to auto parts guy head gasket seemed more probable. Also changed trans fluid and filter. After doing that the car was hard to start and you had to keep your foot on the gas. The next day no start. Since it was quick to heat up and also was leaking a small amount of coolant on to the exhuast it seemed to point to a head gasket. I had the heads checked and although the valve seats were warn and there were some small cracks in the exhaust valves they were not warped or cracked. Since I had them off I opted to put a rebuilt set on. I did talk to a mechanic before I pulled the heads off re the symtoms I had. Even if you have a bad head or gasket the car should still run. Also I wasn't burning coolant out the exhaust. I did double check my reassemble and saw nothing out of wack. I did try to pull codes in my last step but got nothing. Apparently the car comp was cleared of all codes and must be running for all the control modules to reset and show codes. I don't think it's a fuel issue since a fuel pressure check read 39psi,and I did check spark on one of the plugs. Thanks for your help!

Did it ever go past 3/4, all the way to the red?

No, it never went past 3/4, but would climb there almost immediately. Hopefully the gauge was accurate. Even after running it at this temp ther wasn't any signs of a hot engine such as coolant boiling or overflow or really hot to the touch engine or burning smells. I should to a comp check on 1,2 &3 cylinders also, but I have to pull off the upper intake.

You just need to take a step back. It sounds like it's acting exactly the way it's supposed to. The temp is supposed to climb fast. That's why they keep the thermostat closed until it reaches operating temp and the fans aren't programmed to come on until up around 225 so it doesn't appear to be doing anything that it shouldn't as long as it never goes all the way into the red.

These engines are designed to run at higher temps.

I understand that temp should gradually climb, but this totally out of the ordinary that it would run the gauge up within a minute or so and would not drop . Thanks

Yes, it's not operating the way it should. Temp gauge never has and should not climb like that, closed thermostat or not. Yes I do need to step back . The car doesn't start, I need to begin with that. It has fuel pressure and spark. I haven't yet checked all cylinders for compression. Just wondering what basic steps I can take as far testing. thanks!
