My grandson took my car and cleaned the inside windows.vacumed and cleaned the dash. He then took it through the car wash. Now when it is started the trunk and inside lights go on. PLEASE help asap. It is my only car and I need it.

I'm struggling to find association of a trunk lite and interior courtesy lights!? Any chance lights were left on to see better to vacuum? That or a switch got damaged in door jams?
For now I'm out of better idea unless somehow water got in the wrong places.
Can't leave it like this of course. For now you can either take bulb out of truck or look for a wire that feeds power to it and unplug that.
Just curious - how do you know trunk light is on?

Well I guess I am old. I didn't explain it right. Ok here we go again. The lights inside the car stayed on when started. Several hours after the cleaning they were ok. As for the trunk it wasn't the light. SORRY. What is happening is when he starts the car the trunk opens and someone has to close it. It stays closed as long as the car is running. Once parked and you start it again the same thing happens.
I am having a real fit. So any help please????

I still can't think of a good reason why this trouble would be related to cleaning up the car? I'd be going nuts if this happened to me hunting down crossed up wires somehow. Most are out of the way of vacuuming a car so I'm lost,

I was ready to blame the lighting module for the lighting issues but I don't see any connection to the trunk problem. They have a lot of issues with the central junction box which is under the dash on the driver's side. They were having problems with windshield leaks that were dripping into the box that is full of relays and circuit boards.

Thanks for hopping in this HT. I couldn't think of the two issues at once being related but wet relays could misbehave. Know huge Fords but most Crown Vics had the police package and never worked on any nor familiar with dash layouts.
To original poster, pull the square box relays but look in owner's manual which ones control what if not clearly marked. Many in the vintage used the same exact relays for a few items. Take one (should be underhood) with exact same part # on it out of A/C if working and use that for testing.
Did have a few with windshield problems - all were aftermarket glass that just didn't fit right. Not funny but when found owner of a livery service just smashed it for a brand name one marked with names like CarLite, PPG, LOF are quality IMO. If OE and leaking that's still no good.
Yes, a drive thru car wash with the blow job just might get water where it could leak when otherwise it wouldn't but still shouldn't. Still can't get over the trunk opening on its own when started up!! Have seen some whacked problems in my days but that's a first.
Lighting might be on a delay (hate that feature) and wherever that trick happens is screwed up. Laugh/cry - I hate standing in the rain in disbelief that interior lights really will go out! Dammit, when I shut the door to leave the car I want them OUT right away.........

Does this have key less entry?
Looking at the schematic, the light control module gets a signal from the trunk release solenoid. I'm sure that signal is used to turn on the lamps when the trunk lid is released or to turn on the door ajar indicator?
There is a module in the door called a driver's door module that is used to energize the solenoid for the trunk release on the keyless entry models.
We had one in the shop a while back that would pop the trunk and/or roll down one of the windows when you put it in reverse or hit the brake sometimes. It ended up being a faulty driver's door module.
Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

I am going nuts. Now what is going on is the trunk opens when you put the car in reverse. So we pack out and then put the dam car in nutral with emergency brake on get out of the car shut the trunk and everything is fine. That is until the next time.
Going to a shop tomorrow and hope it doesn't cost an arm and a leg to fix. S.S. isn't do until next week.
And life goes on in Western Ma. lol

Already said, this is driving me nuts. Just a wild maybe that wiring to trunk alone and still not likely is routed under the car and car wash somehow mess it up.
Eastern MA myself and about could tell you were calling the parking brake an "emergency" brake which we tend to do. That was totally off the topic and you know Western MA is like another state compared to Eastern MA. You can get good hands on help out there. Isn't that 1/2 way to California? Just kidding,
and hope this is just something stupid and an easy fix,
