2002 Venture dies when left idling

2002 Chevrolet Venture
3.4 Or 3400 engine
215K miles currently
My van seems to run fine in the cooler months but now that the weather is warming up again this problem has returned. If I have to sit in traffic for any length of time, especially if I have the ac going, the van will die on me and then it won't start back up for about 10 minutes. I have gotten to the point that if I see that I'm going to be stuck I will cut the ac off to try to keep it from shutting off, the ac will also stop blowing cold shortly before this anyway. We have had on again off again problems with the cooling system of the van. My husband has the fans wired so that they run all the time which is the only way to keep it cool. The temperature gauge doesn't show that the van is overheating, the highest it usually gets is about 7/16. Any help would be appreciated!

Those vans had lots of problems with their cooling systems and that was pretty much their Achilles heal.
The trick is to see what is missing when it doesn't want to start in those 10 minutes.
