HI all,
I just had my vehicle jumped after having the battery dead for several days. It took quite a bit of time to jump it (about 20 minutes work) and the mechanic said to let it idle for about an hour. After 40 minutes or so, I noticed steam begin to billow out of the vehicle's hood, and also noticed a nasty smell. I assume this is overheating, and the coolant is leaking. I haven't had this sort of issue before; then again, I haven't run it idling this long. What could trigger this?
Thanks for any feedback.

It just means you have more than one problem to resolve. The first thing is to charge and test the battery and replace it if necessary. You should never rely on the car's alternator to recharge ther battery. they are not designed to do that and often will stress the alternator to failure. After that is resolved then find out what the problem with the engine is, whether it may have been frozen or the fan not working or whatever that problem may be.
