2002 Mitsubishi Lancer Ignition

Hi. I have a 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer LS. Over the past week and a half now, I've noticed that the ignition seems to lock and my key won't turn at all. I usually have to adjust the steering wheel for quite a while until I can finally turnover the engine.
Is this a serious problem on all Mitsubishi Lancers? Or am I just doing something stupid that can be resolved easily? I could really use some help.

Try some light spray lube or if leaving the vehicle fully turned either way it could be fighting with the "locking wheel" mechanism and if so shut it off with wheels pointing straight ahead,
