2002
Mercury
Sable LS
3.0 v6 DOHC
102000 miles

Recently while driving my car, the RPMs would sometimes randomly drop a little bit, which wouldnt let me accelerate unless if I took my foot off the pedal and then pressed on the gas again. It was becoming a problem so I replaced the TPS. After the replacement, my RPMs problem was fixed. But, I ran into some more. Now when I drive, shifting into 2nd gear is really hard and takes a little longer, shifting into 3rd is also pretty hard and takes a little bit to shift. Also, my acceleration is terrible now. If I put my foot all the way down, my car will still only accelerate and about 2200 RPMs and will slowly increase as speed increases. Is this because of an aftermarket TPS? and btw, I have a new ECU in from about a month or two ago.

You should start with checking the fuel pressure and performing a backpressure test. If the fuel pressure is ok, you are more likely looking at a restricted exhaust. These cars are notorious for catalytic converters clogging and causing acceleration problems.

Yesterday the check engine light turned on so I went to Oreillys to use their engine check test, and i got the code P1121 (TPU inconsistent with MAF). also an idle control air error. I'm going to have them change out the TPS again just to make sure that it isn't faulty. I'm thinking I should get a Motorcraft one if that doesn't work? because none of these problems happened before I replaced the TPS. I was reading around and people were saying not to get an aftermarket TPS.
