2002 Grand Prix ABS module displaying abnormal data	Sign In

2002 Pontiac Grand Prix 3.1 SE

It felt like the ABS would only work on certain days when it was cold and once the car warmed up the light would go on. In the summer I believe the abs light was constantly on. This issue had persisted for a couple of years till finally the abs light just stayed on constantly.

I finally decided to do something about it last week. Here are the symptoms:

ABS module has no active or stored codes

It takes around a minute to connect to the module(only takes seconds to connect to other modules)

ALL wheel speed sensors read "N/A" and engine rpms show random absurdly high values that take ~10 seconds to update EVEN WITH THE ENGINE OFF!(this only happens in the ABS module, PCM shows correct rpm's with updates every half second)

I assumed this was a defective ABS module since it's unlikely all wheel speed sensors went bad and the engine decided to rev up to 57k rpms so I replaced the abs unit with a cheap one off ebay and I got the EXACT same symptoms. It's very unlikely this module has the exact same problems as my old one so I'm leaning towards a wiring problem now but don't know where to start looking. Any suggestions?

That Autel should be able to find all codes.

I see you have codes in the engine module. Are any of them "U" codes?

Did the ABS module require any coding?

I asked the dealer and they said it required coding but I found that a bit strange since I couldn't find ANYTHING on the internet saying it needed coding or even how to code it. I double checked with someone on reddit they told me it didn't require coding just plug and play so that's what I did. If you know of any way to code it please let me know but I would assume that if the new module needed to be coded it would have given me a dtc now about an incorrect vin but so far I just have the exact same symptoms as my previous module.

Ya, I'm surprised as well. But no codes come up for the abs module and no U codes in general. I was thinking of getting a maxiscope and double checking the GMLan Class 2 network but I feel like if the ABS was acting up it would bring the whole network down with it.

Also the dtc that I have is for the egr valve. I know my egr is faulty and I clean it every once in a while to get rid of the dtc but I refuse to replace it until it's time for emissions testing. I'm such a cheapskate lol.

You should be able to do coding with the Autel you are using. It can download it from the previous module but in your case I might look for fresh coding because that could have been the problem with the original module.

Did the part numbers match exactly on the 2 modules?
