2002 Ford Escape blue arc from ignition coil? Sign In

Hello.. I apologize if I do not use the correct wording.. I am not great with automobile terms

Problem: I went through several large puddles on a dirt road tonight. I got on the main road and my check engine light went on and off for a while then finally stayed on. The vehicle is running extremely rough. I opened the hood and saw a spark (blue arc) coming from the ignition coil? (It is where the spark plug wires all meet..It is whatever the new version of the distributor cap is called) I recently had new plugs and wires put in about a month ago for regular maintenance.

The question I have is could this be a simple changing of the part or should I have a mechanic check it out? Also.. Is this going to be a big deal?

I apologize if this question is worded poorly.. I kind of would like to know what I should expect the next couple of days.

Thank you

If you can see it that's actually helpful. Wires or the coil(s) is not certain but the plastic of coils can easily crack if shocked with moisture or worse doused while hot especially. You might see the flaw/crack or a carbon trace or not but seeing that blue arc at least tells you where the problem is,

Not sure if anyone cares.. but I changed out the ignition coil.. which wasn't that hard at all.. and it runs like a champ again.. not sure what other problems might of occurred because of it cracking.. but so far so good

That would be the likely cause and thanks for posting a successful fix, - T
