2002 Chevy Tahoe Key will not turn in ignition Sign In

I have a 2002 Chevy Tahoe and went to start it up this morning and could not get the key to turn in the ignition. The steering wheel is not locked and the car is in park. I tried 2 different keys with no luck. Any suggestions?

Just a shot at a maybe for this. If the wheel was cut real hard when parked the locking star wheel out of sight can be real sticky. If that's possible try jockeying the wheel left and right while trying again, T

One last shot before this gets sent out for a new lock cylinder.

Are you sure these are the right keys for the car?

If you are sure a locksmith familiar with cars is called for. To replace the cylinder will require messing with an air bag which so far has KILLED three people I know of working on cars and no amount of $$ can be worth a savings here.

It should not be that hard a job but absolutely needs the right info and expertise to do this,

Merry Christmas, T

Thanks for the advice. I did get a locksmith out today that is familiar with this type of job. It took him about an hour and a half, but he replaced the ignition cylinder plug and repinned the cylinder to the old key. Seems to be working now. Certainly not something that I would have been able to do.

God Bless! Doesn't sound like an easy job but is great that you got your orig key back. There's a reason for specialty techs.

I don't think there's anything on the web that would have made that a DIY job.

Come back and visit if only to say hello. We are here to help and have some fun, T
