2002 Buick Rendezvous CXL AWD will NOT start Sign In

Hello all! I am hoping to get some help with what could possibly be wrong with my vehicle before I bring it in to get looked at. I am a female with not much knowledge about vehicles and want to do my best in gathering as much information as possible so as not to get "ripped off" by anyone.

My vehicle is a 2002 Buick Rendezvous CXL AWD 3.4 liter V-6. I believe that is correct.

I parked my car last night, everything was working great. This morning I put the key in and tried to turn it over and all I hear is a aloud clicking noise. I checked all my lights and they are all working including the stereo. I attempted to jump it with my other vehicle and did that for about an hour and still the same clicking noise. No changes.

Anyone have any suggestions or advice? I would really appreciate it! Thanks!

Malina

--- Should I have left the vehicle jumped overnight? Maybe an hour was not enough time to get enough charge to start?

Malina,

You have what is called a "Parasitic Battery Drain". This means that something is draining the voltage from your battery when the ignition is off and the key is out. A few common causes of this are things like cell phones or other devices that are left plugged into the cigarette lighter or power outlet. Other common causes are lights ( interior courtesy lights or brake lights) that stay on when a vehicle is off and the key is out of the ignition. Also coins or anything metallic that accidentally drops into the cigarette lighter or power outlet creating a circuit. Nevertheless your vehicle still you have started with a jump. I suspect it didn't because:

The cables weren't making a good connection.
The cables the inexpensive cheap type.
The cables weren't connected properly.

Once you get the Buick started there is a test called a "Load Test" that you should have done. Any qualified mechanic can do this test for you. Many of the chain type auto part stores will do the test for free. The two systems of concern here are the starting and charging systems. Both systems are made up of voltage bearing circuits and grounds connections. Ground connections are especially critical. Both voltage and ground connections (in both systems) must be on tight and free of all dirt, rust, and corrosion. The link below will help you to find and resolve the parasitic battery drain

link deleted......... not allowed. Post the procedure here is you like.

Oh wow thanks so much for the quick reply! I am attempting to jump start my vehicle again and I do believe you were correct that I did not have my cables on properly the first time. It is VERY difficult to get to the battery of my car (under a metal support frame AND the fuse box) and one of the side mounts was almost impossible to get to. However, it looks like it's getting a bit of a charge and I'll see if I can get it started. I plan on driving it around for 15 or so minutes to see if the alternator is working or if the car is just going to die again.

I'll definitely use your suggestions and get some tests done when I can bring it in to the shop!

Thanks again!

Malina
